Knitting Neighbourhoods Basket of Yarn in Fallr

*ABOUT*

Knitting neighbourhoods together, one ball of yarn at a time.

Inspired by community-centric and inter-generational traditions, Knitting Neighbourhoods was founded on the idea of engaging individuals throughout the community during dark times, and giving them creative projects with purpose.

Following an immensely successful first season (Oct 2020 - Feb 2021) we saw 209 items donated and two boxes of yarn. During our dormant season, we received over 500 knitted and crocheted items that were laundered, tagged, and prepped for donation. As we exit our second season and head into Spring/Summer, I'm so pleased to report that we've been able to donate nearly 700 additional pieces.

While sweater weather might be fading, the struggles of the COVID-19 pandemic are still very much with us and so the crafting continues, as will our collection and distribution of donated yarn to keep our Crafters flush with materials! We will continue our efforts through this next dormant season, in preparation for Fall 2022/Winter 2023.

Knitting Neighbourhoods seeks to address both the issues of loneliness, isolation and boredom amongst our residents, and the challenges of those most vulnerable in our community, including anyone struggling with poverty and homelessness, by giving people a way to stay connected, feel empowered and inspired, while also providing support to the community in a hands-on, yet safe way!

Since launching in October 2020, we have donated approximately 900 knitted and crocheted items, and two boxes of yarn to those in need within our community and beyond.
